The Mining Indaba is in full swing. Beyond the buzz, the real story unfolds in focused sessions where blunt questions hang in the air: How does Africa finally shift from raw exports to industrial power? How can a mine be more than a pit—becoming an engine for energy, jobs, and innovation?

At Terramont Capital Partners, we are here to bridge the gap between these insights and ground-level execution. The discussions in rooms like "Battery Metals Breakthroughs" and "Energy Security for Mines" aren’t just talk—they are a blueprint. Here are a few take aways.

The "Battery Metals Breakthroughs" panel was unequivocal: the era of shipping raw ore is over. The premium is on local processing—but only where policy and infrastructure converge.

We see this unfolding along two key corridors - The Copperbelt’s Industrial Pivot (Zambia/DRC): The conversation isn't about new pits, but about cathode plants and wire rod mills built beside them. The model is changing, fast. It is echoed in companies' billion-dollar push into the region where capital is following the value-add. Moreover, on Lithium, with Namibia leading the charge on raw ore export bans, the opportunity crystallizes around conversion plants. These facilities, feeding the hungry EU EV market, turn Africa’s lithium into a strategic asset, not just a commodity.

Where Terramont Steps In: We don’t just observe this shift; we architect it. Our role is structuring joint ventures and financing that connect mining majors with specialized processors, turning geopolitical momentum into a bankable, local factory.

In the "Energy Security for Mines" , a clear solution emerged: mines must build their own renewable ecosystems. The goal? To turn a crippling cost centre into a profit-generating anchor asset.

This isn't theoretical. It’s happening region-by-region whether in Zambia, in Ghana or South Africa. Diesel dependency is a tax on survival. The opportunity is in solar-plus-storage hybrids developed on mine-adjacent land. We structure deals where an independent power producer (backed by long-term capital) sells reliable, cheaper electricity to the mine via a PPA—and pumps surplus into local grids.

In South Africa, amid Eskom’s struggles, there is a big play in the energy landscape. 100MW+ embedded generation projects that can power a mining complex and the surrounding industrial town. It is about aggregation, scale, and liberation from the grid.

Where Terramont Steps In: We are deal-makers. We bring together the mine (the anchor tenant), the engineering firm, and institutional investors seeking infrastructure yield. We navigate the regulatory maze to make these hybrid power projects not just feasible, but fundamentally bankable.

Regarding technology, the most impactful tech won’t be imported—it will be built for Africa’s specific geology, infrastructure gaps, and talent. As we witnessed in Egypt last month at the Harvard Middle East Africa Summit, technology, including the use of AI, is advancing at a fast pace across Africa and that includes the mining sector. A mine needs to feed thousands. We’re backing agritech platforms are being built that create efficient, high-yield supply chains from local smallholders to the mine kitchen. It’s ESG that delivers tangible food security and cost savings. There are several geologists-turned-founders who are building exploration AI for African geology, and engineers designing modular, rugged processing kits.

Success belongs to those who see connected systems, not isolated assets. A mine must be linked to a power plant, a processing facility, a tech hub, and a skilled community.

That is where we operate. We link global institutional capital with on-the-ground operational grit. We build bridges between the strategic vision and the tangible, profitable projects that will define Africa’s next decade.

The question is no longer if Africa will capture this value, but who will build the links. We are here to build them.
